I’m starting to rack up the miles here. I’ve barely had a chance to put pen to paper on Jeju, and I’ve already found my self back in the airport waiting for my flight to Bangkok.
But then again, it was 5 weeks ago, there’s nothing interesting about a lazy ass.
Hallasan was the bread and butter, the reason I went, and why I did it right away. But I had another hand full of days still. Scouring blogs and travel sites, it’s not hard to fill up a list of places to see, things to eat, other hills to climb.
But Everytime I googled ‘Jeju’, these stone sculptures popped up. Somewhat chubby looking men with hats carved out of volcanic rock. They almost had an Easter island sort of feel to them….although mainly because they’re made out of rock on an island….
Many of them (mostly re-creations unfortunately) are located at the Jeju Stone Park, located not too far out of Jeju-Si by city bus. Getting there isn’t difficult at all. It was maybe a 30-45 minute city bus ride from Jeju City too.
Beyond just the Stone Sculptures, they have recreated villages, museums, as well as a number of different stone arrangements, layouts and sculpture types, all having different meaning and history to them. It’s a decent way to spend a gap day if you’re in Jeju City, but I’d definitely recommend going during the summer…
As always you can find all of the pictures over at Flickr.
